On April 7-8, Professor Qiao Hongwu from Wuhan University Economics and Management School was invited to Peking University School of Economics. He participated in the Economic Thought History Symposium commemorating the 250th anniversary of The Wealth of Nationspublication and delivered a keynote lecture titled What Ethical Dimensions Did Adam Smith Establish for Classical Economics?

Professor Qiao discussed Adam Smith's economic ethical system rooted in the Scottish Enlightenment, tracing the connections between The Theory of Moral Sentimentsand The Wealth of Nations. He explained Smith's contributions from three ethical dimensions:
Justice: The moral philosophical foundation forclassical economics, emphasizing property rights protection.
Freedom: Market economy operational ethics, highlighting spontaneous creativity as the driving force in civil society evolution.
Wealth enrichment: Classical economics' highest ethical goal, prioritizing national wealth growth and public livelihood improvement.
This academic exchange further demonstrates the School's academic influence in economic thought history field, deepening academic interactions with top domestic and international universities like Peking University, University of Glasgow, and renowned scholars domestically and abroad, establishing high-level exchange platforms for disciplinary construction, academic cooperation, and talent cultivation.
